Summertime Serenity...

Good day, readers of the Hot M.A.M.A world! Summer has officially arrived! The kids are out of school, ready to play and driving most of us crazy to go somewhere and have fun!

One of the most sought out places to visit is a beach of some sort.

Even with the recent shark attacks upon East Coast shores surfacing almost daily, it's not deterring visitors from enjoying their place of serenity. No one is cancelling their trips due to the nature that has found its way closer to our shores--and that's a good thing! We simply have to respect their way of life and be mindful of our surroundings.

On to the good stuff...what to bring to the beach! Sunscreen is a must in this day and age for everyone. You may think you won't burn, but the sun will prove otherwise. If you're on any type of medicine, a hat, umbrella or cabana for shade will be helpful as well. First aid kit, keep a mini one in your beach bag. Hydrate! Drink water while out and about but wait an hour before getting into water if you've eaten.

The most crucial item one must have is something to read! Yes, this is the perfect environment to take in the surf, sounds, warm sand and get completely lost in a book! Relaxation is premier when spending time at the beach. Besides, you've earned it! Here are a few suggestions to carry along in paperback and save your electronics for later.

Now, what are you doing Saturday, July, 11, 2015 from 2-6pm? Come on out and meet all of the HOT M.A.M.A.'s at the #FLYHATLUNCHEON which is free! We'll be at the Greensboro Public Library, 219 North Church Street. We're going to have an amazing time! Join us!

Winter Reading: What's Hot!

The snow has been making it impossible for many to get around in the Northeast corridor. As for those of us in the Mid-Atlantic and lower Southern regions, we're now just experiencing the first real bite of winter and all it contains.

Snow, school closings, shoveling and getting that manual exercise we all despise.
Well, most of us...some have those high powered snow blowers and just get the job done.

Now, as for the books being released during this cold snap, that's something to talk about!

One of the hottest authors penning serial stories is Angelia Vernon Menchan. Known for writing stories based around grown folks love, issues, drama and lessons, Menchan delivers it with her voice in style all her own. If you haven't picked up a book by her, you're truly missing out on a good thing!

Another author making noise is the talented Nia Forrester. To know a series is to embrace the characters within; Forrester has her hand on the pulse of this forte.

To round up the spotlight on talent is Nikki Walker. Outside of her wonderful promotional support group on Facebook, Walker pens series that have readers wanting more! Do check her out.

In closing, yours truly has been hard at work as Embue to ready the world for its first full-length, stand alone novel. As much as my loyal readers loved the "No Other Love" series, I wanted to venture out to other places and tap into different things. I'm confident the bike world will do that in my forthcoming offering, "4.0 Club." Book cover credit goes to the ever-talented, Tanisha Y. Pettiford, also known in the book world as Kreative Solutions by Mahogani. I cannot wait to hold the final product in my hands soon!

Here's the synopsis for your enjoyment:

Jean Lee.   Kelsey Hewlett.    Bridget Fortune.
Three talented ladies in their own right, they’re done raising children. Empty nest syndrome has set in and it’s high time they start living for themselves.

An invitation to a party hosted by a mutual friend lures them into a world none of them ever fathomed:  the motorcycle life.
Curious, yet cautious, the ladies take a chance to see what life is like on the wild side…

Everything isn’t all that it seems in the bike world – from mottos, money and men, limits are never an option.
Can Jean, Kelsey and Bridget navigate their way around in this new world, or will they break all the rules instead?

Until next time, Beautiful Ones...RULE YOUR DAY!

Oh, How Sweet The Sound!

Voices…voices…voices…
Do you hear the voices inside your head as you read a novel, short story or a novella?
Are the characters vivid in your mind…make you feel some kind of way?
Do they stand out?
From the way the characters are painted in situations, to the settings in the plot that may be unfolding in three ways but you didn’t see it coming?
A backstory in the making with a secondary character that inadvertently blossomed due to a specific measure taken…
If you read enough stories by a particular author, their writing style and “voice” should come to life in your mind. Sometimes it takes more than two books to “hear” it, yet, the more they write, the stronger it becomes.
That’s called growth and experience, Beautiful Ones.
Avid readers can decipher the tone of a well-written story by their favorite authors quicker than most. If the author flexes genres (Romance, Historical, Mystery, etc.) do they hold the same standards of injecting a strong voice into their respective branches?

Start a conversation with a co-worker or friend about these "voices" and see what you learn fro one another. It could be the discovery of a great book to read.

Until next time, keep reading and keep sharing!
